Brief Description

Even this year, Altin Prenga, owner of Mrizi i Zanave and Convivium Leader of the Slow Food Convivium in Fishta, celebrated the Terra Madre Day with his community, involving also institutions and small-scale farmers.
For the second year, the center of attention has been the turkey of Zadrima. Zadrima is a rural region of the Northern Albania, between the cities of Lezha and Shkodër. This turkey is an endemic species that during and after the Communism has been put aside in favor of more productive species. In the last years, farmers are trying to valorise it, considering also the quality of its meat.
A big step has been reached this year thanks to the involvement of the Albanian Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Water Administration and Directorate of Agriculture of Lezha, which are also promoting in Albania and abroad Albanian agriculture and products.
VIS Albania has always supported the initiatives of the Convivium in Fishta and also this year was present by contributing to part of the organisation expenses and with promotional material about Slow Food and the ESSEDRA project.
The fair started at around 11.00 with the official opening speech held by the Ministry of Agriculture Mr. Edmond Panariti.
Then, with a traditional music background, a group of representatives of the institutions visited the farmers and turkeys present and elected the best turkeys couple.
For the people present, and among them also some elementary school classes, was possible to admire more than 200 turkeys and to taste different dishes prepared only with local food: meat of the Zadrima Turkey, Mishavinë cheese, nettle, pomegranate juice, Kallmet wine, etc.
