There were 10 farmers of Lumth Commune (Lushnje), Mr. Dritan Kolleshi (ESSEDRA project expert) and Mrs. Katia Zene (staff VIS Albania) participating in the meeting. The participants were members of MyzeqejaFarm Association. It is an association specialized in collecting the raw milk of all the members. They have a collecting centre equipped with proper means for collecting and conserving the milk until it was sent to a contracted fabric (Lufra), which then packages it and also produces yogurt, butter and cheese. Also, the farmers cultivated mostly vegetables in greenhouses and corn. The association owned a cowshed and 20 cows (Holstein and Jersey). MyzeqejaFarm has only some years of life, but the farmers used to sell separately their milk to contracted fabrics earlier than the foundation of the association.
The meeting started with a presentation of the ESSEDRA project by K. Zene and the reason of this meeting. Then, the expert talked mainly about the EU production standards and how these requirements will be soon approved and required in Albania and the Albanian farmers, as small-scale producers, will have to adapt their production chain to these new requirements and standards. The farmers were satisfied with their activity because they had a contract for selling the milk to one of the biggest fabrics in Albania and as long as they collected qualitative milk – that is not less than 4.4% of fat and no added water or other strange substances – they were guaranteed that the selling would continue. The vegetables cultivated in greenhouses were sold in the wholesale market in Lushnje and to wholesale merchants from Macedonia, Serbia and Italy. The second part of the meeting was focussed on the Ark of Taste products. The farmers filled in the first nomination forms of Ark of Taste.
