Brief Description

There were 11 farmers of Stropske Commune (Pogradec), Mr. Dritan Kolleshi (ESSEDRA project expert) and Mrs. Katia Zene (staff VIS Albania) participating in the meeting. The participants were members of “Shoqata e Fermereve Stropskë” (Association of Farmers from Stropskë) and coming from the villages of Dardhas and Leshnicë. The farmers cultivated mostly grapes (Muscat Canelli), apples and beans. They are specialised in producing good wine and brandy (raki). Also, they have the “Festival of Wine” organized each September in Pogradec. They use to sell their agricultural products to the wholesale merchants from Korça.
The meeting started with a presentation of the ESSEDRA project by K. Zene and the reason of this meeting. Then, the expert D. Kolleshi talked mainly about the EU production standards and how these requirements will be soon approved and required in Albania and those farmers, as small-scale producers, will have to adapt their production chain to these new requirements and standards. The farmers complained that they sell their products only in Pogradec and a small quantity in Korça, but no one knows the origin of their products (beans, apples). Their agricultural products miss a specific label and this constrains them to sell with a low price. The second part of the meeting was focussed on the Ark of Taste products. The farmers filled in the first nomination forms of Ark of Taste. The president of “Association of Farmers from Stropskë” Mr. Lavdërim Çela stated that in this commune, there is an autochthonous variety of pear called “Pear of Beragozhda”. This variety is chosen to be showcased at Salone del Gusto, Terra Madre Torino 2014.
